| The
campaign to create a community arts centre in the old college building
in St.Annes failed in the summer of 2002 due to the inflexibility
of Newfield Jones Homes and the lack of support by Fylde Borough Council.

However wider
issues have developed, most particularly the lack of a voice for
St.Annes, and the call for the setting up of a TOWN COUNCIL. The
SAART group fully supports this initiative.

A Thought in
Time
The initiative
to turn the old St.Annes college building into a community arts
centre fell apart in June 2002 because of one crucial factor. That
Newfield Jones was not prepared to grant an extension of a further
6 months.
That time was
needed to allow the team to liase properly with the Heritage lottery
Fund, who were very willing to help structure the bid and enable
funding.
It must not have
escaped many people, that today, 8 months down the line, work on
the college building has not started. This time could obviously
have been made available.
This provides
a very sour taste for the people of St.Annes. We have an important
and respected local builder who has not seen fit to think towards
the benefits of the local community. This is a significant loss
that will not be forgotten.
