per year, with income from members' subscriptions, donations, legacies, fund-raising
and small grants.

INVOLVEMENT
We are all more conscious
these days of the importance of our environment, and the Civic Society has always
been at the forefront of campaigns to conserve or improve it. Many aspects of
the town which we now take for granted were the result of early Civic Society
projects. The Society
was formed in 1960 to
oppose building development on Lytham Cricket Club ground
campaigned for the first
Conservation Areas
introduced awards for
good design, now run by Fylde Borough Council
initiated re-use of Lytham
windmill (1975-80)
was involved in the saving
of part of Lytham Baths, its conversion to the Assembly Rooms and the formation
of Lytham Town Trust
paid for the first hanging
baskets in Lytham
initiated and organised
the Lytham Enhancement Scheme (1992-94) which introduced re-paving of forecourts
and more-attractive street furniture.
contributed to the installation
of the pebble mosaic in Clifton Square.
